The in game stats for the 2 principle Soviet IFVs (BMP-1 & BMP-2) are effectively identical apart from the main gun.
Is there a typo in either the game stats for the 2A42 Shipunov 30mm Autocannon or the points cost for the BMP-2?
The 30mm is, according to your game stats, worse than a .50 cal (12.7mm) HMG and much worse than the notoriously inaccurate 2A28 Grom 71mm - yet the BMP-2 costs almost double that of a BMP-1! Why would any Soviet player use a BMP-2 when they can purchase almost 2 significantly (in game terms) better BMP-1s?
For comparison:
YakB 12.7mm Vs Inf = +2 Vs Veh = 0 (Upgraded to 30mm on later Hind as 12.7mm didn't provide enough firepower) 12.7mm DShkM Vs Inf = +1 Vs Veh = -1
Grom 71mm Vs Inf = +2 Vs Veh = +3
30mm 2A42 Vs Inf = +1 Vs Veh = -2
Is a 30mm firing at a muzzle velocity of over 1100 m/s and having armour penetration values of between 25-55mm RHA at 2000m really worse than a 12.7mm firing at around 850 m/s with armour penetration values of only around 15mm at 500m???

Hi Scorpiorocks, I think you're dead right that the "Vs. Vehicles" value of the 30mm should be much higher - not sure how that slipped through the gaps! I would probably set it at +1. As for the points value change, the main advantage of the BMP-2 is that the 30mm can conduct AA fire - which means it can always fire at targets on high ground. This makes it much more versatile than the BMP-1, which cannot attack targets on high ground within 20". Because Mujahideen will almost always be attacking from high ground, and usually within 20", being able to fire back at them straight away is a huge advantage! I'll update the "vs. vehicles" value of the 30mm, making it +1. - The points value should stay the same for the BMP-2, as mujahideen rarely use vehicles anyway. Hope that helps! let me know if you have any more questions or suggestions

Thanks for the Quick response!
That's pretty much what we had done in our "house rules".
I am sure as we play more we will have a few more questions (any plans for more scenarios or expanded army lists[chechen war, Brits/US in afghan]?

No problem, scorpiorocks! This forum may look pretty quiet, but I get notified as soon as a post is made At this stage I have no plans for expanding the H&S system, although it would certainly suit other modern conflicts - chechnya, angola, even Vietnam! I had been thinking about expanding it for Vietnam, but have been busy releasing new games instead! I have already written a game covering Chechnya - Cornered Wolf, which is more of a smaller scale skirmish game - around 20 infantry and 2 or 3 vehicles per side. It is more aimed at simplicity and chaos (it doesn't use any game markers at all), rather than the large scale asymmetrical warfare and more in-depth morale rules in H&S.

Sorry to keep harping on at the same issue: Your in game 2A28 Grom is capable of indirect fire (I have never seen this capability mentioned anywhere - the gun can only elevate 3 degrees!) thus allowing the BMP-1 to happily fire at any mujahideen it, or any friends, can see albeit with reduced efficiency.
Should the BMP-1 have it's indirect capability removed or should the BMP-2 have it's cost reduced?

Hi Scorpirocks - the indirect fire option of the 2A28 Grom is purely for flavor, it doesn't actually allow it to function like a mortar and fire over high terrain, or target enemies outside of its line of sight. Its just a longer range, lower damage alternative I probably could spell that out better. Essentially only the infantry-based mortar can actually fire over high terrain and attack targets without line of sight Hope that helps!
